KUALA LUMPUR: In the month of giving and sharing, Hotel Istana embraced Ramadan by welcoming 70 students from Rumah Peyakin Selangor to break fast with them.
The children, aged six to 17, were escorted to the hotel's grand ballroom where they got the chance to indulge in a wide selection of Malay cuisine.
Some of the food that captured the children's attention was their multiple choice of cakes, fried ice cream and "aiskrim 20 sen".
Hotel Istana area general manager Praba G. Menon said this is the third year the children were invited to break fast with them.
"Since we have been with them for three years, we felt close to them and they have become part of our family."
During dinner, Menon and other hotel staff walked to their tables and gave them a packet of duit Raya worth RM50 each along with a goodie bag.
Rumah Peyakin dormitory supervisor Siti Zaleha Malik, 30, said the students were full of joy when they received the invitation.
"Some of the older children came to the hotel last year and two years ago.
"They told the younger children that this is the best breaking fast event because the employees are really kind and the food is delicious," she said.
Rumah Peyakin Selangor is a house for orphans and children who come from poor families.
