BUYING yourself a designer handbag when you can't actually afford one, can lead to a surge of guilt clouding your thoughts.
Fret not compulsive shoppers, as many entrepreneurs today are creating fun and exciting platforms for you to give back to society and erase the guilt barrier between you and your purchase.
Recently, KLutched owner and designer Yiu Lin, together with social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir joined forces to develop the second season of KLutched - KLutched for Marina M, a line of specially-crafted leather handbags, iPhone cases as well as iPad covers in support of various charitable bodies.
"When Marina came to me with the idea of combining fashion with charity, I knew that it was a fantastic idea and jumped on it. With every sale of a KLutched handbag, 40 per cent of the proceeds collected will be channelled towards a charity body Marina has chosen to contribute to," explained Yiu Lin.
Marina said: "The main idea behind this whole charity campaign is to have 'hot' bags for 'hot' causes. As I do represent many charity bodies, I felt that lending my name to the KLutched line would create a sense of trust for those wanting to donate through buying fashion."
She added that the charity bodies who will gain from this cause would mostly come from women's groups around Malaysia. The first charity body to receive proceeds from the KLutched sales would be Sisters In Islam, an association which is very close and dear to Marina's heart.
p/s: Hopefully Datin Paduka Marina not forget the disabled kids in PDK Selayang.
