IPOH: Some 250 disabled children from 10 community rehabilitation centres (PDK) were all smiles when the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) led by its president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor treated them to a Hari Raya shopping trip.
The children, assisted by their minders had a great time choosing their baju raya at Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket in Jelapang.
One of the recipients Mohd Nik Fadzli Mohd Zubir, 18, said he was overjoyed to meet Rosmah.
"Of course, I am happy as this is the first time I get to see her in person. Previously, I only saw the Prime Minister's wife on television," said Nik Fadzli of PDK Seri Manjung.
Sharing Nik Fadzli's feelings was Mohd Jalaluddin Samsuddin, 22, of Sungai Lampam Utara in Sungai Manik, Teluk Intan.
"I am happy," was Jalaluddin's simple reply when asked how he felt after meeting Rosmah.
His father Samsuddin Mat Arif, 48, said the baju raya, courtesy of Bakti, would be his son's second pair.
Rosmah said the event was part of Bakti's Program Semai, a programme specifically organised to bring joy to the disabled.
She added that Bakti would donate RM10,000 to be distributed among the community rehabilitation centres in the state.
Rosmah also urged society to accept people with disabilities.
"I am confident they have the abilities that normal children have," she added.
Rosmah also urged non-governmental organisations to come up with programmes which bring benefits to these people.
"Improve your collaboration with the various parties, be it the government, corporate sector or even individuals as people of special needs are part of our society," she said.
The children were earlier given duit raya by Bakti.
