SHAH ALAM: Amri Yahyah added another feather to his cap while steely defending saw Malaysia restrict Barcelona to a 3-1 win at the Shah Alam Stadium today.
Having seen the Spanish giants run riot in a 7-1 win over Thailand last week, there were fears that Malaysia would suffer a similar fate but that didn’t happen as K. Rajagobal’s men defended in numbers.
Still, Barcelona were not at their best as Lionel Messi — said to have suffered an injury while training on the National Stadium pitch — did not feature at all.
Barcelona opened the scoring through a Cesc Fabregas effort in the 33rd minute.
Amri, who scored twice in a friendly against Manchester United several years ago, drew Malaysia level with a stunner in the 40th minute.
Neymar then thrilled the 40,000 fans in the stadium with Barcelona’s second before Gerard Pique confirmed victory in the 74th minute.
Barcelona left for home immediately after the match.
