PUTRAJAYA: Some 526 disabled today received start-up kits worth RM2.63mil under the Kebajikan Rakyat 1Malaysia OKU (KAR1SMA OKU) programme.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the aid given was to help the disabled venture into business. |
This was based on the concept of social entrepreneurship and productive welfare approach to improve their living standard.
"Among the start-up kits received were those for tailoring, foodstall and bakery business," she said when launching KAR1SMA OKU here today.
Shahrizat said the recipients were also eligible to apply for loans via micro financing schemes under Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).
R. Selvaraja, 57, who received cooking utensils said he appreciated the government aid to the disabled and single parents.
Selvaraja whose right hand is paralysed due to an accident said the aid would be used to improve his business.
Ibrahim Kalil, 65, who suffered a hand disability said he plans to use the ice lended drink equipment to generate more income.
Earlier, Shahrizat said the Teman 1Azam programme to help the low income group generate income benefited 60,544 participants last year.
Tailoring and restaurant business were among those well received by participants.
