From Jan 6 to Feb 6, readers can send their unused Star Points tokens to any one of eight participating charitable organisations, which will compile and submit the tokens for tabulation under The Star Bid & Win Charity Series.
The charity that gets the highest number of Star Points tokens, regardless of value, will walk away with the top prize of the Peugeot 207 worth more than RM70,000.
Star Publications (M) Bhd group managing director/CEO Ho Kay Tat said in the first four series, readers bid for themselves.
“In this final Charity Series, we provide the opportunity for our readers to win prizes for a charity of their choice. All the Star Points they collect can be used for a good cause.”
The charitable organisations include Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak Kurang Upaya KIRTARSH, Grace Community Services, Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE Worldwide Kuala Lumpur and Pusat Kesedaran Wanita (Women's Centre for Change).
Representatives from the charitable organisations said this was a great opportunity to raise awareness of their cause and also obtain items they critically need.
“We hope that through the Bid & Win promotion, people will be inspired to form partnerships with us,” said Grace Community Services social worker Rosemary Teh.
“We are planning to open new centres soon, and need new equipment and funding,” said Pusat Hemodialisis Mawar operations executive A. Karthigayan.
Other representatives, Datin Lynda Latimer from the Malaysian Council of Cheshire Homes of Services, Dr Hartini Zainudin from Yayasan Chow Kit, Katy Lee from HOPE Worldwide Kuala Lumpur, Lesley Loh from National Stroke Association of Malaysia, Annie Lee from Pusat Hemodialisis Mawar and K. Manivannan from KIRTARSH, also lauded the charitable promotion.
The Star Bid & Win promotion is held in conjunction with The Star's 40th anniversary celebration and to reward loyal readers.
Partners for the Charity Series are UOB (Malaysia) Bhd and Nasim Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Naza Group of Companies.
Readers can start sending their tokens from Jan 6 next year.
Those who have submitted bids for the ongoing Ruby Series, however, are required to hold on to their tokens until the winners are announced.
