KUALA LUMPUR: The KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (Latar) is now open and will be toll-free until Aug 31.
Motorists will be charged RM2 per toll once the free trial period ends on August 31.
Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said the concessionaire had agreed to extend the toll-free period beyond the normal one-month trial period.
"I have asked them to extend it for the benefit of motorists especially since Ramadhan is around the corner.
"The highway, which is 33km long, will reduce travel time from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Selangor by almost an hour as it will only take about 30 to 40 minutes now compared to the one-and-a-half hours on the old road," he said after launching the highway at the Taman Rimba Templer toll plaza here.
The highway, which opened Thursday, will also give motorists access to the North South Expressway (Plus), the Guthrie Corridor and the soon-to-built West Coast Highway which connects to Perak.
There are three tolls for Latar, namely the Assam Jawa toll; east and west toll; and the Taman Rimba Templer toll.
