PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak called on all parties to consider the special needs community as important and valuable assets to the nation.
He said the disabled had talent and potential that could be sharpened or expanded, to allow them to live independently and to contribute to nation building.
He called all government departments and agencies and the private sector to provide them with the opportunities to develop themselves and their careers.
"What the government and society in general should do is to provide opportunities for them to get a job suited to their abilities and talents, and allow them to lead a normal life.”
“I have advised government departments and agencies, and the private sector to provide as many opportunities as possible to people with disabilities because I believe that they will become valuable assets to our country," he said.
He said there were many disabled people in the country who were successful in various fields as leaders, athletes and artists.
"I also believe that what is done through this programme will leave an indelible mark and prove that people with disabilities were never neglected by the government or society.”
He said people with disabilities should not feel inferior or regard their state as an obstacle to their success.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Semai Bakti Special Talent Competition 2013 Prime Minister's Cup and Community Rehabilitation Centre Product Sales Carnival (PDK) organised by the Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers Association (BAKTI) in Putrajaya Square here tonight.
Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, cabinet ministers, chief ministers, menteris besar, and their wives in show of support for the disabled of the country.
