KUALA LUMPUR: The roads in Kampung Kasipillay of Jalan Ipoh have not been properly resurfaced since their construction more than 40 years ago.
A Streets check found all the eight residential roads there to be in dire need of repairs, especially resurfacing work.
The roads are uneven and riddled with potholes. Some parts are also sinking.
The roads in the worst condition are Jalan Mangga, Jalan Kasipillay, Jalan Duku and Jalan Parkis.
Heavy vehicles travelling to the illegal factories that have mushroomed in Jalan Parkis have worsened the already bad condition of the road.
The project to replace a storm water pipe that channels water from Bukit Tunku through Jalan Kuching into Jalan Duku and Jalan Kasipillay has also affected the roads.
K. Ariaratnam, 62, said the remedial work on the roads damaged by the pipe replacement was shoddy and left much to be desired.
He said cracks appeared in the tarred-over road surfaces just days after the work was done.
Resident Abraham Moses Jayaraj, 74, also wanted to know why the Department of Drainage and Irrigation had left a 10m-wide gap in the flood retention wall near the Laxme Narayan Temple.
The wall, built around Sungai Batu, stretches from Putra World Trade Centre to Kampung Kasipillay.
He also wanted to know why the pump house project near the river, which was to have started two years ago, has not yet started.
"The sign erected by City Hall at the site states that the project is to be completed by the year's end," said Abraham.
