Sighting Of Syawal Moon On Aug 7

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Office of the Keepers of the Rulers' Seal Monday announced that the sighting of the Syawal moon to determine the date for Aidilfitri this year is on Aug 7.
The Conference of Rulers have also agreed that the determining the Aidilfitri date would be based on 'rukyah' (sighting of the new moon) and 'hisab' (astromonical calculations), with the announcement to be made on Wednesday night over radio and television.

The locations for the sighting of the Syawal moon included Pontian Kecil (Johor), Kompleks Falak A-Khawarizmi, Kampung Balik Batu in Tanjung Bidara (Melaka), Telok Kemang in Port Dickson (Negeri Sembilan), Bukit Melawati, Balai Cerap Selangor (Selangor), Pantai Pasir Panjang, Mukim Pengkalan Baru, Manjong (Perak), and Pusat Falak Sheikh Tahir in Pantai Aceh (Penang).

Other locations are Kampung Pulau Sayak, Pemandangan Indah Langkawi and Alor Setar Tower (Kedah), Bukit Besar in Kuala Terengganu, Bukit Geliga in Kemaman, Pulau Perhentian, Besut and Balai Cerap KUSZA in Setiu (Terengganu), Bukit Peraksi in Pasir Puteh, Bukit Kampung Tembeling in Kuala Krai and the SEDC tower block in Kota Baharu (Kelantan).

The other locations for the sightings are in Tanjung Lubang in Miri, Teluk Bandung in Kuching and Tanjung Batu in Bintulu (Sarawak), Balai Cerap Al-Biruni in Tanjung Dumpil and Universiti Malaysia Sabah tower block (Sabah), Bukit Tanjung Batu in Nenasi, Gunung Berincang in Cameron Highlands and Bukit Pelindong in Kuantan (Pahang), Menara Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur), Putrajaya International Convention Centre (Putrajaya) and Kuala Sungai Baru in Simpang Empat (Perlis).
