GEORGE TOWN: Fifteen orphans and 145 disabled students received duit raya and festive goodies in conjunction with the state Education Department's Ramadan celebrations at Penang Free School (PFS) recently.
The goodies, which were sponsored by 11 private donors, including local dates supplier Meera Sahib, were presented to the children by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
The orphans are from the Nasyiatul Aisyah home in Balik Pulau. The disabled students, who are mostly blind and deaf, are from SMA Alma and SM Pendidikan Khas Tanjung Bungah.
Also present at the event were 300 students from the PFS hostel, who broke fast with Rahman and other dignitaries, including state Education Department director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin and PFS board of governors chairman Datuk Abdul Rafique Abdul Karim.
