IRB to begin issuing forms

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will issue the forms for the one-off cash handout of RM500 to households with income of less than RM3,000 in December, said its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar.

“Payments are expected to be made in January. The applications can also be made online,” he said after officiating IRB's Innovation Day celebrations in Bangi here yesterday.

Mohd Shukor added that the form would be published in the newspapers to ensure wider access to people staying in village areas.

“We will involve the 36 branches as well as 17 IRB centres in the districts, and have mobile units to conduct the registration,” he said, adding that the IRB was the sole agency for the activity.

Mohd Shukor said the payment would be disbursed by the Accountant-General through banks, including Bank Simpanan Nasional.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had announced the one-off cash relief when tabling Budget 2012 in Parliament last month.

The Budget proposal said RM1.8bil has been allocated for the aid which is expected to benefit 3.4 million homes or 53% of households in the country.

Mohd Shukor said the IRB would also use the e-Kasih database to obtain information of the people who are eligible for the aid.

e-Kasih is the Centralised National Poverty Databank used by relevant agencies to channel aid to the poor.

The database, which is overseen by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, has 331,000 households registered since its launch in 2007.

Earlier, Mohd Shukor also launched the Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages for the IRB.
“Social media will be a platform for interaction as well as to respond and provide a better and more effective service to taxpayers.”
