KD Mahawangsa comes to aid distressed Indonesian boat

KUALA LUMPUR -- Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) ship, KD Mahawangsa came to the aid of an Indonesian boat facing engine problems eight nautical miles west of Tanjung Piai, Johor, two days ago.

RMN's public relations officer Lt Kdr Masliza Maaris in a statement today said the ship was on routine patrol at the location when it spotted the boat.

"Navy staff saw crew members of the boat waving for attention and approached the boat to find the skipper Mohd Darwin Abdul Muin, 37,and his crewmember Ramli bin Ismail, 45, in the boat which was had encountered engine problems the day before.

According to the statement, the Indonesians based in Batam could not ask for help as their handphone batteries had run out.

On seeing their predicament, navy staff offered the crew handphone batteries chargers, food and drinks, she said. -- Bernama
