Hospital food is halal, says Rosnah

THE Health Ministry has given its assurance that all food prepared and served at hospitals under the ministry is 100 per cent halal, clean and of quality.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin there was stringent control at all levels of food preparation operations, beginning from the tender stage to serving at the wards, towards ensuring the food served was safe to eat.

"The food catering operations of 128 ministry hospitals is supervised by ministry officers stationed at Penang Hospital, Putrajaya Hospital, Selayang Hospital, Sungai Buloh Hospital, Serdang Hospital and Sultan Ismail Johor Hospital," she said in a reply to a question by Dr Che Rosli Che Mat (Pas-Hulu Langat) on the ministry's measures on food supply to government hospitals yesterday.

She said among the measures taken were ensuring food contractors abided by the terms of their contracts, including satisfying the government that all foodstuff delivered were 100 per cent halal.

Rosnah also said the ministry would ensure all 135 units under the Department of Dietetics and Food Services of the ministry obtained the Quality Assurance in Food Preparation Certificates (GMP) from authorised bodies.

She said 10 hospitals under the ministry that had received the GMP certification were Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Muadzam Shah Hospital, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Jerantut Hospital, Raub Hospital, Kuala Lipis Hospital, Jengka Hospital, Bentong Hospital, Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital and Langkawi Hospital. -- Bernama
