First group of Malaysian Haj pilgrims to leave on Sept 29

PUTRAJAYA: The first group of Malaysian pilgrims for this haj season will leave for the Holy Land on Sept 29, according to Tabung Haji (TH) senior general manager Datuk Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman.
He said two charter flights provided by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Saudi Airlines would depart from the KL International Airport with the 450 pilgrims on the said date.

They were part of the 28,000 haj pilgrims bound for Mecca this season.

Syed Saleh said right now the pilgrims were undergoing the state-level Perdana haj preparation course after completing their basic and intensive haj courses.
"The preparation is almost complete. Now, we are just awaiting departure.

All letters informing the pilgrims of their dates of departure have been issued in stages since early this month."

He said this to reporters after attending the launch of Federal Territories-level Perdana haj course by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim here yesterday.

Syed Saleh said over 800 TH staff would also be deployed to ensure the welfare of the Malaysian pilgrims for this haj season.

The pilgrims will start returning home on Nov 12 and the last flight is expected to leave Saudi Arabia on Dec 11, he said.

Meanwhile, Mashitah in her speech, also advised the Malaysian haj pilgrims to observe personal health and self-discipline to uphold the country's good name.

So far, TH had been praised for turning out highly-disciplined pilgrims and it is hoped that it will continue to receive such a recognition with the cooperation from the pilgrims, she said. - Bernama
