KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Director-General of Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) Prof Datuk Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin has been appointed Rector of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) from Wednesday.
IIUM said in a statement that Prof Zaleha was appointed to succeed Prof Datuk Seri Syed Arabi Idid whose term as Rector ended on June 1.
Zaleha, a PhD (Law) holder from University of London was also Dean of Ahmad Ibrahim Law Kulliyyah (Faculty) at IIUM, the statement said.
"She was on loan at IKIM for two years from Aug 2, 2009 to Aug 1, 2010, replacing Datuk Nik Mustapha Nik Hassan who was appointed Director-General of IKIM.
"Zaleha began her career as assistant lecturer at Law Kulliyyah IIUM in 1985 and subsequently appointed lecturer at the same Kulliyyah in 1988," it added.
