Serial splasher strikes again

KUALA LUMPUR: Another woman has fallen victim to the serial splasher, this time in Wangsa Maju, the first reported in the area since the attacks began early March.

This makes it a total of 21 people who have been splashed with corrosive liquid, although police have yet to release a photofit or CCTV footage of the suspect.

City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the woman, in her 30s, was splashed with the corrosive liquid while she was in her car Friday morning.

"The 8.45am incident occurred near Section 10, Wangsa Maju.

"The woman was driving with her window down, when a man on a motorcycle splashed her," he told reporters after a shooting competition between city police and the media at the Police Training Academy (Pulapol) here.

"The woman did not suffer any serious injuries, but only complained of slight skin irratation," he added.

DCP Zulkifli said police were investigating if the latest case was related to multiple splasher incidents since March.

It was reported in The Star Friday that police had narrowed down the hunt for the elusive corrosive liquid splasher.

The report quoted Bukit Aman CID Director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin as saying that police had a better idea of the splasher's appearance based on descriptions from victims, eye witnesses and CCTV footage.

The attacks began on March 2 when eight students and a teacher from SK Bukit Bandaraya in Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, were splashed with a burning liquid by a motorcyclist.

Since then, more than 20 people have suffered minor or severe burns from such attacks.

The latest incidents were last week when five others, including a year-old baby, were splashed with the liquid within a 48-hour period.
