PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department (NRD) will further improve the national smart identification card, MyKad, especially in its security features.
Its director-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim, however, refuted allegations that the move was taken due to MyKad forgery activities.
"MyKad forgery cases are rare but we want to improve our product from time to time," he said after receiving a visit from the Public Service Department, led by its Director-General Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Abdullah, at the NRD headquarters here yesterday.
Alwi said among the features being looked into were the photographs of MyKad owners, which would probably be captured using laser engraving technology.
However, he said any improvement on MyKad would be announced in due course.
He also said fewer complaints and applications for MyKad replacement had been received since last year's move to upgrade the physical quality of the card. -- Bernama
