SINGAPORE: Singapore today thanked Malaysia for helping to evacuate its citizens from Libya.
"For the recent evacuation from Libya, where we have no mission, the Malaysian Embassy provided us much assistance, for which I would like here to record my deep gratitude," said Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo in his reply to supplementary questions in Parliament.
Ten Singaporeans who were in harm’s way in Libya have left Tripoli and "we have just received a report of another Singaporean seeking to leave Tripoli, and are working to secure his safe departure."
"Apparently his Singapore passport has expired. Because of the large number of Asean citizens working in the Middle East, and there are millions of them, we have agreed among ourselves to help one another in whatever we can should the need arise," Yeo said.
