GEORGE TOWN: ‘Flying Doctor’ Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan will be proclaimed Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) pro-chancellor at the university’s 43rd convocation ceremony at its engineering campus in Seri Ampangan, Nibong Tebal, today.
He will receive the scroll from USM Chancellor, the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail.
Dr Jegathesan, the first Malaysian to win an Asian Games gold in 1962, described the pro-chancellorship as a “very prestigious honour” in recognition of his contributions.
“This is definitely one of the high points in my life. It is unexpected and I am very honoured,” the Olympic Council of Malaysia deputy president told The Star yesterday.
The 67-year-old Perakian is currently a consultant and lecturer for a laboratory, university and hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
It was reported that Dr Jegathesan replaces former Bank Negara Malaysia deputy governor and former Pacific Bank Group chairman and CEO Tan Sri Dr Lin See Yan.
