Development of Kg Baru : Mosque to be focal point of Kg Baru facelift

Masjid Kampung Baru Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: The Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru will be the focal point in the development of the city’s oldest Malay enclave.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the mosque had a special place in the hearts of the residents and as such, the development of the area should revolve around it.

"For many years, the mosque has been the place that bound the people together.

“It is synonymous with Kampung Baru and it is so popular that even the Sultan of Brunei knows a lot about it.

“Hence when we develop it, the mosque will be the iconic structure of the area,” he said in his speech when visiting the mosque yesterday.

Najib announced an allocation of RM20mil from the 1Malaysia Development Board for the renovation of the mosque as the first step to developing the area.

He also assured the residents they would not be moved out from the area once it was developed.
