KUALA LUMPUR: A record-breaking total of 927 bags were collected at the recent 25th annual "Give Blood, Save Lives" campaign at Thean Hou Temple, here, recently.

An initial 1,030 bags were collected but 103 were rejected.
Nevertheless, the latest number far surpassed last year's total of 854 pints in a span of seven hours.
The event was jointly organised by Lions Clubs International District 308B1 and 25 other associations.
Twenty-two Lions clubs from the district's Zones Three and Four, here, took part in this year's campaign.
Among the participating clubs were the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur (Host), KL Taman Tun and KL Cheras, Ampang, KL Seri Petaling, KL Capital, KL Sentul, KL South, KL OUG, KL City and KL Bukit Kiara.
It also marked the 18th year of the Lions' involvement in the blood donation campaign, which is usually held during the Ramadan period to replenish the dwindling supplies in the National Blood Bank.
Twenty taxis also provided free return transport for donors to the venue from the LRT station in Masjid Jamek and Central Market.
Donors who gave blood multiple times were presented with hampers, rice cookers and even bicycles.
In addition to cholesterol and glucose tests, there were also eye screenings conducted by the Malaysian Association of Practising Opticians and stalls promoting nutritious snacks and drinks.
