Kundang : Dodol-making event a perfect recipe for unity

STIRRING dodol takes between five and seven hours of continuous effort.
And in the spirit of 1Malaysia, Kuang assemblyman Abdul Shukur Idrus organised a dodol-making event in Padang Awam Kampung Setia, Kundang recently.
It was his fifth time organising the event — with 72 large woks.

The community comprising Indians, Chinese and Malays came together to stir the dodol. According to Shukur, he was surprised to see that representatives from MIC managed to finish first last year. For this event, Shukur donated RM300 for each wok for the people to mix and stir thedodol.
“Each group had their own recipe in making this traditional delicacy using main ingredients like santangula melaka and sometimes even durian.
“They started making dodol at 8pm and it went on until about 4am. Everyone takes turn to stir the sticky concoction until it thickens.
“When the dodol is finally done, it will be distributed to the community in the area,’’ he said.
Shukur’s wife Raja Norashikin Raja Takran, with the help of others, prepared sup kambing and drinks for those who were preparing thedodol.
Before the event, Shukur presented RM100 to RM200 each to 224 students from Kuang who scored straight As.
He also presented excellent service award to 16 teachers.
Around 432 people received duit raya and 428 students received RM1,500 each as initial payment of their PTPTN loan.
