Eight states to get bins for free (Kedah, Perlis, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor, Negri Sembilan and Malacca)

ALOR SETAR: Three million rubbish bins will be distributed for free to households in states which agreed to hand over their solid waste management to three companies appointed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung said Kedah, Perlis, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor, Negri Sembilan and Malacca would receive the bins from now until August 2014.

“The bins, which cost RM120 each, will be distributed in stages starting with the state capital followed by the districts.

“Based on the concession agreement with the companies, the bins will be changed every seven years for households upon settling their assessment rates,” he said after witnessing the distribution of bins to Taman Lumba Kuda residents here yesterday.

Chor said the bins were distributed in accordance with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act which was implemented on Sept 1.

“The bins have serial numbers so that they can be traced and returned to the owners should they be stolen.

Chor said residents could call 1-800-88-7472 for the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation.
