Pilot, assistant cheating death in emergency landing

SHAH ALAM: A pilot and his assistant cheated death by making an emergency landing at a mangrove swamp in Kg Assam Jawa, Kuala Selangor near here after their aircraft developed mechanical problems.

Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Mohd Taib Ahmad said in the 3pm incident, a Socata TB-10 Tobago GT aeroplane piloted by Abdul Rais Saad, 45, and his assistant, Parvinder Pal Singh, 21, was on its way back to the Subang Airport.

The aircraft owned by ESB Aeroclub Subang was flying around the Sekinchan area when it encountered problems, he told Bernama.

The pilot managed to contact the Bukit Aman Control Centre Operations Room to inform them of his position.

Upon the emergency landing, the two managed to save themselves from the aircraft, which was buried up to the cockpit in the mangrove swamp.

"Both the victims walked about 500 metres to a prawn farm near the crash site before being assisted by farm workers," he said. Police brought them to the Tanjong Karang Hospital for examination and treatment, he said.
