KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei led two Malaysian doubles pairs - Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong and Goh Wei Shem/Lim Khim Wah - into the quarter-finals of the Japan Open Super Series in Tokyo on Thursday.
Chong Wei who secured his quarter-final slot after defeating unseeded Wang Zhengming of China 21-19, 21-14, takes on Japan's rising star Kenichi Tago on Friday.
In the men's doubles, the two Malaysian pairs will meet each other in the quarter-finals, thus ensuring Malaysia's representation in the semi-fnals.
Goh/Lim pulled off an impressive upset by beating world number eight Chai Biao/Guo Zhendong of China 19-21, 21-19, 21-19 while the third seeded Koo/Tan were made to work hard before defeating unseeded Yoshiteru Hirobe/Kenta Kazuno of Japan 17-21, 21-11, 21-18
