Lost boy, 10, found walking along expressway

GEORGE TOWN: A 10-year-old boy, who wanted to visit his grandparents in Paya Terubong, some 15km away, walked off early in the morning without telling anyone.

His mother Tan Lay Sim then started searching for him with some relatives at the Weld Quay area and when she failed to find him, she lodged a police report at the Patani Road police station at 8am.

Lim Zi Hong left his house at Pintasan Cecil at about 6.45am yesterday with only a bottle of water and a pouch.

To the relief of his mother, Zi Hong, who went missing for about nine hours, was spotted by a motorist as he walking along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway at about 3.30pm. The motorist fetched him to his school.

Tan, 38, said: “I went to his room to wake him up at 6.20am for school.

“While I was having my bath, I heard the sound of keys and someone opening the door. He was missing when I came out of the bathroom.”

The standard four pupil of SRJK(C) Li Teik got lost while on the way to his grandparents’ houses and was walking back home when he was found by the motorist.

“He had asked me to buy him a toy robot that cost RM80 several weeks ago and I told him it was too expensive.

“He seemed normal the past several days and had not ask for anything specific,” the relieved mother of two said.

Zi Hong, who was visibly tired, was quiet and kept his head down in remorse.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police thanked the public for their help in the search.
