PETALING JAYA: The current haze situation is still manageable and Malaysians need not worry that it will be hazardous to their health.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) application deputy director-general Alui Bahari said the department was continuously monitoring the weather conditions and so far, the haze was not at an unhealthy level.
"There is no need for the public to panic or worry. So far, the condition is still normal. The situation can be considered 'business as usual'," he said, adding that outdoor activities could still be carried out.
The Department of Environment website revealed that Port Klang's API fell into the "unhealthy" category when it registered a reading of 104 at 11am Thursday. However, at 5pm, no "unhealthy" API readings were recorded.
In a press release, the MMD said the number of hot spots decreased from six in peninsular Malaysia on Tuesday to three on Wednesday.
The number of hot spots in Sumatra, Indonesia also fell from 156 to 119 for the same period.
Satellite images revealed that no hot spots were found in peninsular Malaysia at 5pm Thursday, while five were spotted in Borneo island.
