Pulau Tiga : The island of three volcanoes, named by the three volcano mud area

Also it's named caouse of two other smaller islands in the vicinity -- Pulau Ular and Pulau Burung.

Some elders from Kuala Penyu believed there is something mysterious about the island.

That's probably due to the three mud volcanoes on the island, the small volcanoes spewed sulphur-rich mud from the ground.

That was also an island where fishermen would seek shelter from strong winds when they were out at sea in the old days.

These days, things are different. Many young people visit the island as tourists and say there's nothing spooky about it at all. You can find many of them bathing in the volcanic mud. It is believed to be good for the health and skin.

For others, Pulau Tiga is "Survivor Island". It was where the American reality hit series Survivor was filmed in 2000. It is now in its 17th season.

Remnants from the series can still be found on the island, such as some of the props the participants used in the show and other stuff from a British copycat series the following year. The island was gazetted as a park in 1978.

So are the mud volcanoes. The impact the show has had on the island is evident as most of the foreigners who come here still call it 'Survivor Island.

The island has eight dive spots, and visitors can also go jungle trekking, or take a closer look at wildlife such as monkeys, monitor lizards, and bird species such as hornbills and megapodes.

Wowww!
Pulau Ular nearby also offers a sideshow for visitors as they get to see poisonous banded sea snakes and sea eagles.
