Similajau National Park : Lured by orang utans

SIBU: Tourists from the Netherlands are now coming to the state in large numbers as they want to see the orang utans.

Eva Hofmeester from tour agency Djoseph Holland told Star Sarawak yesterday that their monthly package to the state usually had more than 20 clients.

“We can only take in a maximum of 20 for each monthly tour and most of the time, the number exceeds that so we have to split them up to other months.

“For other places in other countries, our tour package only attracts between six and nine persons,” she said.

Hofmeester was leading a group of 20 to the state when she was met here.

They arrived in Kuching on March 4 and had a packed tour of Kuching before arriving here on Tuesday.

Their first stop was the Tua Peh Kong Temple.

They left for Kapit yesterday on a three-hour express boat ride.

“We are going to the longhouses in Kapit. From there, we will be going to Bintulu to the Similajau National Park to see the orang utans,” she said.
