SEPANG: After helping about 1,000 Malaysians in New Zealand, the Putera 1Malaysia Club returned to the KL International Airport (KLIA) yesterday.
The club, which left on a humanitarian trip to Christchurch on March 2, offered aid to the Malaysians affected by the earthquake that rocked the city on Feb 22.
Club president and team leader Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said they had successfully completed their mission and had reached out to the Malaysians there, including students.
“We distributed laptops, medical aid, money and five tonnes of food to those who needed it after the earthquake destroyed their homes,” he told reporters upon his arrival here.
He added that the club members also offered support and counseling to those traumatised by the incident.
The 30-man team, comprising six medical personnel, also took the opportunity to learn how doctors handled the overwhelming number of patients at hospitals in the city.
“We also learnt how New Zealand cope with natural disasters,” said Abdul Azeez.
