Moderate earthquake strikes northern Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR: A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck 65km southwest of Padang Sidempuan in northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 5.15pm Friday, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

The epicentre of the quake was located 367km southwest of Klang, Selangor, it said in a statement.

There was no tsunami threat, it added. - Bernama
