Malaysia F1 : Sterling silver trophies for race

THE Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix trophies will now be in sterling silver sponsored by renowned silversmith Tiffany & Co.

The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) CEO Datuk Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali said it was time for a change as for the past 13 years, the trophies had been in pewter.

SIC has signed a three-year partnership with Tiffany and Co. as the official trophy producer and sponsor for the three international events — The F1 race, MotoGP and the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race.

“This is a collaboration between two prestigious brands.

“We are indeed honoured to be working with Tiffany & Co that has built a reputation in the industry as without comparison and second to none,” said Ahmad at the unveiling of the trophies at the company’s outlet in Pavilion.

Tiffany & Co general manager Marianne Liow said in the United States, the company had sponsored trophies for some of the world’s greatest sporting events such as the National Football League, Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy, National Basketball Association Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy and the US Open Tennis Championship.

“We are excited with our first collaboration in Malaysia.

“The trophies are all hand crafted with great detailing done by some of our greatest silversmiths in New York.

“We are already working on customised trophies for this year’s MotoGP and F1 next year,” she said.
