Libya Chaos : 3 more still in Libya

SEPANG: The Foreign Affairs Ministry is looking for three more Malaysians stranded in Libya.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Richard Riot Anak Jaem said their whereabouts were unknown.

"We know they are in the country based on reports by their families, but we do not know where they are exactly. We are doing our best to find them," he said at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday.

He said the ministry was looking for more information on the three, who were believed to have been working in the country.

He advised Malaysians travelling and working overseas to inform foreign missions of their whereabouts at all times.

He said this after greeting 98 Malaysians, from the first batch of 130, who arrived here on Malaysia Airlines flight MH015 at 6.25am.

Of these, six were government officers, two were students and four were from Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the 32 remaining Malaysians were expected to arrive here early tomorrow, although a few had indicated their intentions to fly elsewhere.

Commenting on reports that five students had chosen to remain in Tripoli, Riot said Wisma Putra officers were trying to evacuate them to Tunisia.

"They are being taken care of by employees of Ranhill, the Malaysian company operating in Libya."

All seven Malaysian students in Libya, he said, had been studying at the Libyan Dakwah Islamiyah University under sponsorship from the World Islamic Call Society.

The Malaysians were evacuated from Tripoli on a chartered Air Tunis flight to Tunisia. From there, they were flown to Rome on a Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 Hercules on Saturday.

The evacuation was a joint effort by the National Security Council, Foreign Affairs Ministry and Ranhill.

On the flight were the Malaysian ambassador to Libya, his family and embassy staff. They closed the embassy until the situation in the country improved
