Government Aid : New homes for 71 Arau villagers

p/s: Could we have the exact amount to build per house and to repair a house. It's more better to keep off our BIG question marks in our mind.

KANGAR: Seventy-one villagers in Arau, including 30 from the Simpang Empat constituency, yesterday took possession of new houses given to them under the government's housing assistance programme.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Md Isa Sabu said although Simpang Empat was under the opposition, the state government had never neglected the people there.

"We are here to serve the people without looking at their political background," he said.

"Last year, we spent a total of RM726,000 to build 18 new houses and repaired 12 in Simpang Empat for people earning RM700 and below."

Isa was speaking after handing over a house to Hajarul Aswad Ismail, 32, at Kampung Berjaya here yesterday.

He said in the past two years, RM18.6 million was spent to build houses and repair dilapidated ones for 765 poor families in Perlis.

Last year, the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority spent RM4.4 million on new houses and to repair existing ones for 201 families.

Padang Besar had the largest number of recipients at 75, followed by 71 from Arau and 55 from Kangar.

Isa urged those who had applied for assistance but had not received their houses to be patient.
