UNDERPRIVILEGED students from secondary schools in Kuala Pilah, Tampin and Jempol in Negri Sembilan who achieved excellent results in their examinations were rewarded with cash incentives by Pekerti (Association of wives of wakil rakyat and senior state government officials) during the association’s 30th annual general meeting (AGM) in Seremban recently.
The 43 teenagers who excelled despite their circumstances were given ang pow and motivational books for obtaining straight As in their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations.
M. Suwathi, 13, from SMK Tunku Syed Idrus, Tampin who obtained 7As in the UPSR examinations said doing well in school was the only way to a better future.
“My siblings and I were raised by my grandparents since we were young and they have always reminded us to study hard as by doing so we will be assured a bright future.
“It has not been easy as I can’t afford tuition and have to work twice as hard juggling my daily chores with my schoolwork and revision but it has paid off,” she said.
Suwathi who received a RM150 cash gift from Pekerti for her hard work said she was grateful for the incentive which she would spend on buying revision books.
