The guest of honour was Lady Mayoress Barbara Bear, who is the wife of the Lord Mayor of the city of London Alderman Michael Bear.

She presented the contribution to the Women’s Aid Organisation. Bear was here in Kuala Lumpur with her husband on a working visit.

During the event, ABWM charity co-ordinator Lynda Merican spoke about how the members volunteer on a regular basis in a number of different charities.

She said they actively work with children, run playgroups, help with school work, teach English as well as have fun with creative arts and crafts classes.

“We had a brilliant fundraising team and the main event was our hugely successful Christmas Bazaar, where volunteers worked long and hard.

“We are mindful to support a broad spectrum of charities with special focus in women and children as we feel most passionate about,” she said, adding that they support disadvantaged people from all race and religion without prejudice and discrimination.

She thanked everyone who had contributed in one way or the other.
