Rawang to get Chinese school

p/s: when could we get another PDK setting-up in Rawang, some People's with Disability was waiting years to have center to get rehabilitation, education and training, some are die in their waiting.

RAWANG: Residents in Emerald township and its surrounding areas here will have a new Chinese primary school by early next year.

Construction of SRJK (C) Kota Emerald on a six-acre piece of land will commence next month and is expected to be completed by the end of October.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the school with 24 classrooms, an administration block and various facilities, including a football field, would be able to take in 1,000 pupils per session.

“The school is expected to enrol pupils in January 2012.

“It will cater to the growing population in Rawang,” he said after presenting a RM3.5mil cheque on behalf of the Education Ministry to the school board yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Finance Minister cum Selangor MCA chairman Datuk Donald Lim and former Selangor executive councillor Datuk Tang See Hang.

Dr Wee said Hong Leong Foundation and Hong Bee Foundation also contributed a total of RM3mil to the school building fund.

“This new school will be in addition to the 1,292 Chinese schools nationwide,” he added.

Tang, who is chairman of the school board, said Selayang MCA division had been pushing for another Chinese school in the district for several years.

He said currently Rawang has only one Chinese primary school – SRJK (C) San Yuk – which has more than 3,000 pupils and was overcrowded.

Tang added that the cost of building the new school was RM6.5mil excluding the land.

The land, costing RM10mil was donated by the developer of Emerald, Promakmur Development Sdn Bhd, the joint venture company between GuocoLand (Malaysia) Bhd and Hong Bee Land Sdn.
