KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Welfare Department has spent RM5.81mil to operate the flood relief centres in states recently hit by floods.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the expenditure, to date, had gone to various operations, including providing food and other basic necessities to flood victims in Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Pahang.
"During the floods this time, 430 relief centres were opened by the Social Welfare Department, out of which 194 are still in operation and accommodating 44,672 flood evacuees," she added in a statement Friday.
Shahrizat said the department also provided 1,147 workers and 2,150 volunteers to help manage the flood relief centres and send aid to the victims, Bernama reported.
