Fake Information via SMS : Verify SMS before forwarding

JOHOR BARU: People should not be gullible and become emotional when receiving malicious SMS messages from unverifiable sources.

Instead, they should find out the truth first before mass forwarding to others.

Johor Unity, Human Resource, Science, Technology and Innovation committee chairman M. Asojan said there were certain subversive parties who took advantage of the SMS services to spread lies and stroke racial tension among people.

He cited a recent SMS which was widely circulated about a Kluang High School principal who wanted to destroy the Tamil language by forcefully transferring the head of the language and also prevent students from taking Tamil in PMR, SPM and STPM examinations.

“The SMS even contained the mobile numbers of the state education director, the principal and district education officer for people to vent their anger.

“I checked on this matter and it is all utter rubbish,” he said, adding the allegations were not true.
